Miami Boat Show Performance Boats and Highlights
Another valentines day is in the books and that means another Miami Boat Show is also over and done with. This year was very similar to last year in that the on the water performance boats were at Grove Harbor marina in Coconut Grove, and the main show was at the Miami Beach Convention Center. I made a walkthrough video which was done with a GoPro to hopefully capture it all a little better than years past. In general, there was nothing new. The new Mercury Racing V6 200R was there but there were no new boats that I can think of or incredible product launches. Of course, I mostly was interested in the performance stuff and a few other things that caught my eye. Here is an article and full video.
One boat that was a little bit of a surprise was the Stingray 23 OSX outboard, It’s a sleek family boat, measuring 23’5” with a 100” beam. The Stingray 23 is available in a closed bow OCX version as well. The boat has 2 buckets and a u bench at the back. With a 20 degree deadrise, the family cruiser can get into the mid 70 MPH range with a 250 SHO Yamaha. This hull weighs in dry at 2,800 lbs.

Stingray has built a direct competitor to the Checkmate Pulsare 2400. The biggest difference is the Stingray is priced at a starting price of $86,000 and can be had with a 300 and well equipped for under $100k. That is really impressive. Stingray has been building boats for decades and the value is incredible and the 23 looks very good.
Speaking of Checkmate, they had two 2400 OBX models at the show, one with a 450R and one with a 500R. They are big deep bowriders and both were in elaborate bright green and the other bright orange. Pete from Checkmate is a great guy and has fulfilled many orders for the 2400 and has built a special 21 recently. He also plans on bringing back the 260 Convincor in a sterndrive package. The 2400 is popular because it’s a family friendly boat, it’s not the fastest 24 around but will take plenty of people and get on the water.

Moving to the bigger stuff, the Mystic C4000 has a newly designed deck and a new glass windshield that looks really sharp; it is a little taller and has a really nice look to it. All Mystics are finished really nice and definitely connote a high end look and feel. They use nice rich colors and paint jobs that are more modern than some of the competitors who still do radical graphics. John Cosker is the owner and founder of Mystic Powerboats, which have numerous accolades on the race circuit and speed records. John’s designs and attention to detail are second to none.

Performance Boats had a P420 on display and were getting a new P280 ready to run in the Keys Islands runner the next weekend. I really wanted to see the P280 but I’ll have to wait, the guys from Performance were raving about what a performer it is with a single 500R. They are seeing speeds in the 125 MPH range already.
Nor-Tech had their monster 40 foot super cat with quad 500Rs. Of course, the guys from Nor-Tech are known for big power cats, the quad OB version is really unique. I sure acceleration is quite something, and the big cat can get above 130 MPH, this is a real show stopper.

One of the most impressive boats was the DCB M42R, finished in white gelcoat and a black metal flake stripe. Clean and crisp, the lines of the DCB really look amazing. Similar to the M37, the 42 is just stunningly sleek, and as always the finish is perfect. DCB has really gone full steam into the true tunnel cats. They have even bigger things in the works.
MTI and Cigarette were inside the convention center and there were no new models but MTI did have the latest 440X and a new 482 with twin 1550 Mercury Racing engines. The 482 is big and really impressive. The interior and overall finish is really incredible.

I tried to go around the show and look at regular boats too, just in case you were interested and couldn’t make it to the show. Subscribe to the YouTube channel and let me know what you think. I used a GoPro for most of it as an experiment.
