Mercury Racing AMS 300R: More Features, More Options
With the popularity of the Mercury Racing 300R and its incredibly versatile nature, it is not too surprising to see more features added. With the addition of the Racing AMS (advanced mid section) boaters get even more out of the popular 4.6L V8 outboard. I was invited to Captiva Island to get a close look and run the AMS 300R at the Mercury Racing launch event. The Racing AMS adds many benefits,
“The Racing AMS features heavy-duty guide plates and stiffened engine mounts to stabilize the engine for enhanced high-speed handling. An optional rear tie-bar bracket integral to the Racing AMS provides a strong, ultra-light mounting point for rock-solid, precision steering on catamaran and other ultra-high-speed applications. The Racing AMS also isolates the powerhead from the transom to ensure run quality is smooth and quiet at all speeds. Available Joystick Piloting for Outboards (JPO) for boats rigged with two to six outboards provides intuitive, fingertip 360-degree boat control for docking and maneuvering in tight quarters plus the convenience of Skyhook® position-holding features and integrated auto piloting.” (Mercury Racing)
On top of that, DTS controls and electro hydraulic steering are standard. One more nice touch is the engine is available in black and cold fusion white. Rigging is simpler and adding a tie bar is integrated as well.
The AMS 300R will be available with the 5.44” HD gearcase as well as the Sport Master gearcase. One more difference is the AMS version comes with a 1.85 gear ratio, which lends itself well to multi engine applications and will work well on big boats.
This will be a fantastic option on twin engine sport cats, multi engine sport center consoles and some single engine boats. The integrated steering is nice and the AMS provides an incredible smooth yet responsive driving feel. Mercury Racing is continuing to address every aspect of the performance market.
