The Chaudron Pro S-25 Heads North
Last month we sent the Chaudron Pro S-25 up North to New Jersey to its new home. Although I would have loved to run it more, I had to be mindful of not putting too many hours on it, while also getting the video done and some preliminary testing. Since the engine was brand new, I didn’t get a top speed run in or try different props. With that said, here is a run down on the the boat did and what might be next.
The Chaudron Pro S-25 performed flawlessly with the Bravo FS 30”, running it about 1.25” to 1.5” above the bottom. I played around with different heights and as reported by everyone who has run the large diameter Sport Master on the 300R, the higher the better. I adjusted it on the fly and I think 1.75 to 2” would be optimal for a top speed run. Without much effort the boat reached mid 80s as we set it up.
Worth noting was how well the 25’ hull handled, effortless to get on plane, ran incredibly smooth in all sorts of chop. And, with the narrow hull, carved nicely in turns while never having any bad characteristics. The new owner reported running it 85 MPH in rough water with 3 people on board. The Mercury Racing 300R HD is a powerhouse. I never would get tired of the effortless torque it provided. Acceleration from a cruise was incredible.
Some small boats with that much setback and a heavy engine porpoise at low speeds, not the Chaudron. In fact, I loved how it ran with the twin step design, flat and smooth. The Pro S25 is a blast while also being very easy to drive, no drama.
Another thing I really admired about the boat and why I brought it in is the overall design. There is simply nothing else like it around. The styling is modern with a hint of classic offshore. Will we bring another one in? Yes. We are waiting for shipping costs to come back to earth, right now it is impossible to ship containers economically. I’d love to bring a Pro S-22 and a SV 27 to Miami.
There really isn’t anything quite like the Chaudron lineup here and hopefully more will be coming soon.
